Doodle 4 Google National Winner
On May 21, 2008, I was the national winner of the first Doodle 4 Google competition. The theme was to come up with an idea that were based off the quote “What if?” and create a doodle that reflected it. My doodle was called, “Up in the Clouds” where I envisioned an ideal world.
“My doodle, ‘Up in the Clouds,’ expresses a world in the sky. This new world is clean and fresh, and people are social and enlightened. Every person here is treated as family no matter who they are. The bright sun heats this ideal place with warmth, love, and brightens everyone’s day.”
As the national winner, I was rewarded a $10,000 scholarship, a HP laptop, and a $25,000 technology grant for my school. And in addition to that, my doodle was posted as the google logo on the Google website for an entire day.
It was an eye-opening and amazing experience to have had the privilege to visit the Googleplex and meet so many different people including Dennis Hwang, the webmaster, and Marissa Mayer, who is now the CEO of Yahoo.
The doodle quickly went to press, and I had a series of interviews with the Today show, NBC, Korean Ilbo, Korean Joongang, and many more.
